Washington-Sending shockwaves across the nation, a new study released today by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration reveals that a significant percentage of the 10.8 million underage drinkers in America have been obtaining alcohol from adults, including their parents.
"We just didn't see this coming," acting Surgeon General Steven K. Galson explained. "Who would have thought that these kids were turning to adults to acquire ethanol for illegal consumption. This changes everything."
The results of the nationwide survey go against the grain of current accepted thinking on the subject of underage drinking. Until now, epidemiologists had believed that teens and adults under the age of 21 were making use of an underground network of moonshine production and distribution run by adolescent hillbillies. That and atheists.
Well of course it would be the fault of the atheists. Without any supernatural beings in our lives, and with the absence of those 10 rules to live by, we are doomed to a life of crime.
ReplyDeleteJust read your article, and again, this seems to be a huge concern for many. WHY are adults giving alcohol to children at all ?
ReplyDeleteI would like to share my story, on how Alcohol can & did destroy mine and my late husbands health, dramatically !
Let me know if possible to send to you.
Many thanks.

theotherexperiment,
ReplyDeleteI assume of course that you are talking about the rules in the bible that help many a good Christian live their lives in a proper manner such as not allowing cattle to graze with other kinds of cattle or avoiding the wearing of clothes made of more than one fabric.
Ms. Gibbs,
I don't think that anyone would argue that alcohol can be a bad thing if misused but you story, if true, is nothing but an anecdote and does not prove causation.
People develop seizures for myriad reasons. The fact that you and your late husband drank alcohol and then developed seizures in no way proves that the consumption of any amount of alcohol can lead to a chronic seizure disorder. Your fearmongering is unfounded and, while I appreciate your situation if it is accurate, I do not appreciate your use of a personal anecdote to tell people how to live their lives.
Do you drive a car? Do you eat food? Do you breathe air? All of these activities run the risk of leading to a chronic and debilitating medical condition. If you want to scare people, at least have some evidence.
Oh, and I resent the fact that you are telling people that an infant's seizure disorder is somehow caused by the fact that its grandfather used to drink. That is absurd. You are biased by your emotions and unable to think reasonably.
Dear Mr. Knudsen: I apologize if I've offended you in anyway Sir.
ReplyDeleteObviously, you must be a Physician of some sort, as the information I'm passing on, is only what has been given by our Doctor, 2 Physicians & 2 Surgeons.
In my cousin's baby girl, that too was mentioned, by their Physician in the USA.
Spreading this information, in no way helps me with my grief, at the loss of my beloved husband, as NOTHING can, I trust you must understand. What I'm trying to do, in a obviously small way, is alert many others, so that their children & teenagers will not destroy their health, as we did ours.
I hope that makes things more clear Sir.
Again, my apology for stearing you wrong if in fact I did.
Thankyou.
Sheila
If your intent is to warn others of the dangers of chronic alcohol abuse, I have no problem with that. What you have written in other forums came across to me as implying that even appropriate alcohol intake is dangerous when there is no evidence of that. Good luck with your endeavor.
